Someone is selling this antique pocket watch, inscribed “CP Simms, Chipping Norton”.
In fact, the watch was made by Charles Price Simms, who was a Chippy watch and clockmaker. Born in 1820, he was based on New Street from at least 1861. By 1891, he had retired, although he was still living on the same road as he had done for decades.
He died in 1910, at the grand old age of 89; and now one of the watches he worked so hard to make is on sale – for the starting price of 99p.
