Ahoy there! Chippy yacht club a success

yachtWhen Trevor Taylor announced his intention to set up a yacht club in Chippy – not the closest town to the sea by any stretch – many eyebrows might have been raised.

Now, however, his belief in the club has been justified.

The yacht club held its inaugural dinner on 30 January and was apparently a great success – with over 80 members celebrating the club’s launch. Already, more than 100 people have signed up to be club members.

Trevor has told BBC Oxford that the club’s success is down to many people in town already taking part in sailing, or having their own boats moored elsewhere. Many of them have boats in the Ionian, so he is currently organising two rallies in Greece.

The next meeting of the Chipping Norton Yacht Club is on 27 February, where the Managing Director of Jeckells Sails, Chris Jeckells, will be speaking. If you want to join, the club is still accepting membership applications – go to its website for more details.
