Work starts on Co-op expansion

image copyAfter delays and speculation, it looks like work has finally started on the expansion of the Co-operative store in Chippy.

Planning approval was given for the expanded store and carpark some time ago, and in the meantime, we have seen Sainsbury’s try – and fail – to get permission for an out-of-town superstore, and Aldi float the possibility of a store also on the edge of town.

imageBut now Co-op – one of the two supermarkets in the centre of town, together with Sainsbury’s – has started work, with the burgage plot next door seeing action over the past 24 hours.

This follows Co-op’s recent announcement that it would start works by the end of October – and it appears to be keeping to this timetable.
