Chippy’s Co-op store has ‘significantly scaled down’ its expansion plans, according to the Banbury Guardian.

This week’s edition, published yesterday, states that the shop floor area expansion will be reduced and a proposed two-storey car park will no longer be built.

Ben Reid, chief executive of The Midcounties Co-operative, is also quoted as saying that they want the expansion to have a ‘minimal impact on the local area.’

Impact on the community is given as the main reason for the altered plans, with construction time now being two months shorter.

In response to queries from Chippy News, Midcounties Co-op said it submitted a revised planning application to WODC on 13 November. Not only does this application reduce the floor area and lose the second floor of the car park – it also says that access is not needed off Cattlemarket.

Midcounties Co-op has also said that its revised proposal is not in response to the planning application recently submitted by Aldi to build a store on the edge of the town.
