Deadline looms for potential town councillors

As we mentioned here last week, the deadline for people to nominate themselves for the vacant position of councillor on Chipping Norton Town Council is this Thursday – 24 April.

So if you are interested in local issues, politics, and democracy, then why not stand for election as one of the town council’s 16 councillors?

At least 10 local electors requested an election to fill the seat vacant since the resignation of David Lydiat, which means the council has to hold a by-election and cannot ‘co-opt’ someone (as they did last year, when Richard Benfield was invited onto the council).

Nomination papers are available from the WODC offices at Woodgreen, Witney, or from the Chipping Norton Town Council clerk at the Guildhall.

If only one candidate is nominated, that person will be elected without a contest, but if more than one nomination exists after the last date for a candidate to withdraw (4pm on 24 April), the election will be held on Thursday 22 May.

The whole town council will be re-elected in May 2015.
