On Remembrance Sunday, 9 November, the British Legion parade will take place in Chippy. It will start at 10.30am from outside Sainsbury’s, and make its way down to St Mary’s Church.
On Armistice Day, 11 November, at 11am, a two minute silence will be held at the War Memorial, which is on the corner of Albion Street and London Road.
Afterwards, standard-bearer Malcolm Holland will be taking the standard to Over Norton, while others from the British Legion visit Little Rissington Churchyard to lay a wreath in remembrance of airmen buried there who died in plane crashes in or near Chipping Norton.
In addition, on 6 November, Chippy’s British Legion will be hosting a talk by Alan Knowles, entitled “The Outlines of the Great War 1914-1918, Exploring the Overall Views and Misconceptions”. The talk will take place at the Crown & Cushion at 6.30pm, with tickets costing £10 for British Legion members and £11 for non-members. Under 16s and members of the cadet forces only have to pay £5. Tickets include a finger buffet, and more details can be found at the Chipping Norton British Legion website.
